I have a different PE teacher now because of the trimester change. I had him last year, in the third trimester, so I am familiar with him. I thought I would be fine again, but last year, when I first started off, I was really tired from his class, and the same thing is happening this year. I'm started to get used to it, but it'll probably take a while before I'm completely accustomed to the hard work again (this teacher isn't mean or anything, it's just that we do more extreme stuff in his class than the teacher I had the trimester before).
When we run a regular, four-lap mile around the track, it's called a Smile Mile in his class. Since we do regular exercises before running the mile, I'm always tired out when it's time to run the mile. So my times have become slow again - I got 8:28, when my recent times last trimester were nearly 30 seconds faster. So I am not too pleased with that, because even when I try to run fast it still isn't enough, what with shoulder and gut cramps...
But then there are times when I am angry at myself for having a weak-minded attitude. I should definitely try my best. You can never say you're already good enough, you have to keep trying. I have to continue to do my best until I run this whole mile smiling. It's not like I dislike running. This year I have discovered that I like to run, as long as there is not a huge amount of pressure on me.
After all, I was able to help someone else just a little bit last trimester. If you want to improve your time or keep a steady pace, then look for someone who runs faster than you, but not too much faster. You could just follow them the whole time, and it might make your time better. One of the students in my class last trimester ran with me to improve her time (with my permission :p ). My strategy for running is to start out with a slow pace, then speed up gradually or maintain the pace, and in the last lap, I try to spend all my energy and sprint to the finish. It's just what works for me. Some folks prefer to sprint on the first lap instead.
My classmate said her time got a bit better this trimester, and it's kind of nice to feel like you've done something. "A good deed is a reward in itself" or whatever the saying was...Not that I built a house for low income people or something. (My dad did, but then he got sick, probably because he was sweating and he wasn't dressed for the cold, or something, and then my whole family got sick.)
Speaking of the cold weather, the squirrels are making their preparations. I think squirrels are hibernating animals, so they have been eating like crazy to prepare for sleeping until springtime. They robbed my backyard of fruits, like the figs and the persimmons. And now the squirrels that live near me are chubby as can be.
I wonder if that added weight means they can't run as fast. Some time ago, I saw a squirrel on the road. It was pretty gruesome, as the squirrel was actually sort of flattened, it smelled a bit funny, and there was some blood. The squirrel must've been hit by a car. Ouch, what a painful way to die.
It seems squirrels elsewhere don't have as much to eat. The squirrels at my piano teacher's apartment were more normal-looking. Probably they have to work hard for their food, instead of having fruit practically at their doorstep, waiting to be picked.
Oh yes, and I just heard recently that my cousins will both be taking piano class. Originally my younger cousin wanted to learn piano, but then her brother decided he wanted to learn too. So now they have a piano and will be taking lessons. They're already having lessons that are an hour long...My mom said to my aunt that it's not good to do that, as young folks have a short attention span. I mean, when I started out piano, I only had half-hour lessons with the teacher, and my lessons are still only forty-five minutes long.

I think it's something the old President George W. Bush said, but I may have mistakenly attributed to him. Anyhow, I heard that he said this on his 60th birthday when he was still in office. If more people thought like that, you wouldn't be hearing a lot of them complaining about their grey hairs and back pain and how their kids are growing up too quickly or how they want to retire but they need to make more money... Blah blah blah. If only we could all be a little more positive and think, sure, this means another year of my life, and that's tiresome, but there are good things and memories to be made every year along with the bad things. Sometimes you might not realize right away, but you could be having the time of your life.
The reason why I started off my post like this is because my age just changed yesterday. Yep, it was my birthday. More specifically, the 13th one. I hope that age really is just a number since I don't want this to be an unlucky year for me. Judging from my school schedule, which I was able to see from Pinnacle Internet Viewer (thanks Shirayuki no Kimi or I wouldn't have known), it seems they plan to put me in village K. I don't really know the 8th grade teachers, so I'm kind of nervous. I've been looking on a site where you can rate teachers, and it seems my French teacher and science teacher are the ones that the students like the least...I hope it won't be a rough year, then. At least you have a chance of changing PE teachers. My intended PE periods are 6th, 3rd, and 3rd. I like 3rd period PE, so that's good to hear. But it seems like I always get 6th period PE sometime in the year. (Oh, well. I'm glad I don't have 5th period PE. Then I wouldn't even have time to digest my lunch)
Today my mom actually did Wii Fit. In fact, a lot of it. I'm sure it was at least more than half an hour. It's been so long since she did Wii Fit, she seems to have forgotten how to do some of the exercises (like Advanced Step, which is in a way a different kind of DDR) but I hope she'll make a habit out of exercising so she can build some muscle. No offense intended to her, but she's not much of an athlete. She could use it. My dad has not used Wii Fit ever since we came home from vacation a few days ago. It's hard for us to get back into the groove after being away for a while.
For this week my mom has been taking time off work and staying at home, so she can pretend she's still in Australia and get some more relaxation time before she must go back to work and get bombarded by unanswered emails and projects and things like that. It's nice to have someone around so you won't feel too lonesome. (Maybe it's just me who gets lonely. I'd actually gotten used to it in sixth grade, after a good friend of mine moved away in fifth, I think, but eventually I started wanting to socialize again.) During school it isn't so much of a matter but when you're by yourself, or/and something bad happens, you feel like this.

If you have the game Wii Fit on your Wii, you can choose the male or female fitness trainer. (Both are pretty weird. I think the girl is better, since that's the one I picked.) While you do yoga and strength training, she constantly lectures you. She might say "This exercise is popular because it tones your arms" or "You're a little shaky. Focus on stretching your spine" or "Good job! You're pretty strong." It gets annoying after a while, hearing her blab on. They even have subtitles on the screen that you can't get rid of, for people who are deaf. (If you're blind AND deaf, like Helen Keller, then you can't play video games anyhow, seeing as touching the TV screen does no good)
Sometimes, to make the game seem more real...If you have a female trainer like me, once in a while, she'll be replaced by the other trainer, the male one, for whatever your first yoga/strength training activity is. I would assume it is vice versa if you are trained by the guy. The first time this happened to me, I was shocked and laughing at the same time, and then I couldn't concentrate for a while.
If you play a long time, you might unlock the three challenges - Pushups, jackknives, and plank. (In case you don't know, a jackknife is where you lie down on the ground, bend your knees, and then come up in a V shape, then go back down to the ground. Feels like a sit-up.) At first it's really amusing when you beat the trainer. She'll go "I'm not giving up yet!" or "It looks like that's all you can do" or "Still with me? Do 10 more" or "You win this time!" One day I tried to challenge her and she refused, saying she wasn't feeling up to it. I was pretty steamed, since this is the first time any video game snubbed me like that. XD
Anyhow, I ended up doing 100 jackknives and 180 seconds of plank. The plank was especially hard and after I was done, I felt my arm. The muscle in it (is it the bicep? or the brachialis? or maybe the tricep?) was really stiff and hard, since it had been strained. Probably I'll wake up with pains tomorrow, if experience tells me correctly.
I forgot to talk about Friday, so this is a good opportunity. It was a pretty miserable day for me. I didn't have a good test score, due to a lot of silly mistakes in math. Then Mr. Robinson the PE teacher was supposed to do weight and height measuring, but our class, 4th period, didn't get to because he had to leave and buy pizza for his champions (whoever does the most jumpropes and pushups or something. I've always been intimidated by those people). So instead we went over to Ms. Rawson's class and played a weird game. Two people face each other in pushup position. A blue ball is placed between them. When someone gives the signal, both people try to grab the ball with one hand while not falling down. It all relies on whether you have a fast reaction time. This must mean I'm not an old lady yet, so that's a relief.
Afterwards we ran for a bit and then went up to the giant green field. We had to do an odd kind of relay. You roll on the grass from the first cone to the second cone, then run from there to the small backstop cage thing, and then you have to "crab-walk" to the third cone (it's like you go on the ground with your knees bent and hands supporting you, and move in the direction of your back) and finally "bear-crawl" (walking on all fours) to your teammates. I didn't think it was too bad besides being exhausting until it was lunchtime and I was feeling strangely itchy. I couldn't stop scratching and soon the places where my arms and legs bent were pink and funny-looking. On my arm, a tiny circle of skin had risen up like it was swollen. I didn't want to poke it since it looked dangerous. Maybe I'm allergic to grass. (Next time I have to tell the teacher. I'm only afraid they'll think I'm making an excuse, like those boys who go to the bathroom a lot in class to avoid it)

Yesterday morning, I managed to drag my mother away from her laptop. It's actually not hers, but it's one that my dad got from his office, intended for work, except my mom uses it to watch Asian movies. Normally she gets glued to the screen, so that she doesn't pay much attention to me (which can be good or bad, depending) but I managed to force her into trying some Wii Fit. She doesn't get enough exercise despite insisting that she takes walks with her engineer friends after lunch.
We started off with a bit of jogging. I ran as fast as I could (or more just shuffled my feet very quickly) which made my mom accuse me of cheating. I just shrugged it off and finished in record time. For a few minutes I watched my mom. She jogs really, really slow so it took a while. Then we tried some strength training, since both my mom and I need some toning on our triceps (upper arm). She wants to use the 2 lb weights instead of the 3 lb weights but the 2 lb's are somewhere else. Probably lost, like the majority of my possessions. Then we did some yoga. Kind of like my dad, she can't do the Spinal Twist. Whenever I mention this to my parents they insist it's because of my much younger age.
I spent this morning and afternoon at my mom's office. I was planning to make my blog post there but I got distracted by playing my DS (The game? Harvest Moon DS). I am trying to rescue 60 sprites (little elfish dudes who were sent to another world by magic) so that my game can go on but it's slow work, especially since it's winter. (Funny, since it's winter over here, too.) I can't grow any vegetables or fruits in this lame weather.
Road signs nowadays look very pitiful. One of them was a green rectangular kind sticking over the highway. But the sign was twisted sideways so that it was leaning against tree branches, and a large amount of the hard green part was missing, so that it seemed like someone had mangled it. And then there was this blue sign (kind of like a triangle shape, but not quite) and it said Highway 280 on it. The sign was upside down, though, so it looked like 08Z (a warped z, because it was a 2).
I recently heard from my mom that my grandparents have been reading my blog. I thought this was hard to believe since they don't know that much English, but my mother reminded me that they have a Chinese-English dictionary, and retired people have too much free time (most of them, anyhow). Then my grandparents send me emails, but they're written in Chinese so I just stick them in a folder and forget about them. (Sorry, Gran & Gramps. But I can't read Chinese.)

When I came home today, I tried to go on the Internet, but it wasn't working. The connection seemed messed up. When my mom came home, she managed to fix it by reconnecting the router. So luckily I do have Internet access.
But unfortunately, I somehow managed to get injured in PE again. I didn't have enough energy when I was doing the stretches (which for Mr. Blair's class, we do a lot of running around while stretching). This caused me to fall and twist my ankle. Since I used my knee to partially break the fall, my knee has lost some of its skin. it's very annoying indeed, as I can't run, and can only walk awkwardly. I hope it heals soon, at least before we run the mile next week. If you have any tips that I haven't heard before, please let me know.
I finished the anime I was watching, Moetan, so now I am instead engrossing myself in Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle. (Otherwise known as Tsubasa Chronicles or just plain Tsubasa.) The manga was developed by CLAMP (if you know the names Cardcaptor Sakura, CLAMP School Detectives, Magic Knight Rayearth, Chobits, etc. you may know what I'm talking about) and uses similar characters to some of their other series. It's a pretty long anime. I think it's roughly 52 episodes. (Which was upsetting to me as I am too lazy to watch long animes) Oh well. I already started, so I'll finish.
Oh, sorry it's late, but here's cooking schedule for this week.
Monday - Grilled Panini Sandwiches (actually pretty simple. I only put meat and cheese in mine.)
Tuseday - Haystacks (It's a kind of candy made from chow mein noodles and something similar to chocolate chips, but that tastes different)
Wednesday - Table Setting Test (And we watched something about the food pyramid)
Thursday - Mac and Cheese (I look forward to it.)
Friday - Chocolate Chip Cookies (Sweet, but unhealthy.)
I finished a book called The Star of Kazan recently (author: Eva Ibbotson). It was a pretty good book overall. I am now reading Onion John, but I don't like it much so far. But it was interesting that the guy called Onion John likes using bathtubs to store vegetables and newspapers.

PE was a real misery today. First we had to run, which is the usual, but I needed to go to the bathroom (Except I couldn't, since the teacher might think I'm making an excuse to get out of PE) so it got harder and harder to run. And then we had a choice between watching a movie in the boys' locker room (I decided not to. We'd seen the movie already - it was one about how sports and science are related or something - and the boys' locker room smells funny. At least to me). I chose basketball, which turned out to be not so nice...The basketball didn't bounce well when it hit puddles, and every time I dribbled, mud splattered onto my legs. If I try to shoot baskets, I usually have to stand in a puddle, which is very unpleasant. My shoes didn't stand up well to the water and I ended up with soaked socks.
At the very least, cooking was delicious today. We finally finished making the streusel coffee cake. (Streusel meaning crumb, I think). We made some mulled apple cider to go with it (Apple juice with some cloves and cinnamon, simmered in a pot). Sounds delicious, but unlike the cake, it wasn't. It was slightly bitter and had a strange aftertaste. I would rather have plain apple juice, personally.
I keep putting off getting a new layout for the blog. I really want to have a change since it's fun to customize things. (At least for me. On video games or websites I like being able to change stuff as I see fit.) Maybe I'll do it this weekend if I have time. I'm not sure if I will. I need to do my last cooking project, plus start research for my Japan project, and maybe do a little brainstorming for my factoring story.
Science class was a bit different than usual. We were watching "The Eyes of Nye" which is apparently similar to Bill Nye the Science Guy, except the old Bill Nye is meant for elementary school kids, and The Eyes of Nye is meant for high school kids? (Nothing for us "in-betweener" middle schoolers, I guess.) It was sort of funny, but sort of disgusting and confusing and sad sometimes. Like for the sad kind: The mating call of crickets also attracts a kind of fly. The fly latches onto the cricket and burrows into its body. Flies grow inside the cricket until they burst out and the cricket dies. What a sad life...But sickening too, if you get eaten from your insides out. Bleck.

Nowadays I've been pegging a bunch of different labels onto my posts...So much that they won't fit in the bar you type them into, and you would have to highlight from left to right if you wanted to see how many there were. Or just click your mouse there and keep hitting the left arrow on your keyboard. (If I'm confusing you, just forget it. XD)
Today has been a pretty boring day so far. I woke up, delirious, around 8 am. I was woken up by a need to go to the bathroom which is a sad way to wake up since you won't be able to get back to sleep if it's late enough in the morning. I just read National Geographic Magazine for a while before dragging myself out of bed. I decided to make french toast so I could finish one of my cooking projects. (It's a big hassle having to do homework for my elective. Luckily I only need one more HCP and I'll be done with them for the rest of my life...Unless I join Advanced Applied Arts next year.) It tastes rather eggy instead of sweet, but it's good if you put syrup and sugar on it. (If you use syrup, or even honey, it will be messy, so watch out.) I really hate getting my mouth and hands sticky. It feels like it's hard to clean.
Afterwards I played Animal Crossing on my Gamecube. I just play for some time every week instead of every day on the Gamecube since I really don't have enough leisure time for it otherwise. Lately I've been playing my newest person, Radcliff, like crazy, and since I made him in December I've already fully expanded my house (except for the basement). If you have both games you will notice it is considerably easier to pay off your debt on the Gamecube...Or maybe it feels that way because I have two memory cards and can make money by visiting both. (And I play the DS version every day so I guess it makes me feel like it takes a long time.)
Then we hopped in the car and headed to Saratoga. Sometimes I insist on going there so we can see the farmer's market. I tried some samples of salmon spread and it was pretty yummy. (But my dad says food always tastes better when it's a free sample.) I also bought some apple cider. I usually get my apple cider from a stand called Rainbow Orchards. And I get my strawberries from whatever random places there are. We always sample the strawberries first to see if they're sweet, then look at the price. If it's reasonable and the strawberries were tasty, then we buy it. And of course, since there are cage free brown eggs, we get those. They're cheaper at the farmer's market than at Whole Foods anyhow.
So right now my dad is probably napping and I can't practice piano. I figure I'll go do some Wii Fit to pass the time. I should exercise anyhow, since it's the weekend and I don't have PE. D: I suggest you all do the same, as you are reading this.

I fell asleep a few hours earlier this time. Maybe it was 11:30, or midnight, or 12:30 in the night. I'm not sure, since I can't see my clock that well in the nighttime. (It's a black clock. Convenient, huh?) And I woke up around 9. For me, usually, that's considered sleeping in, but since I came back from China, that merely means I'm managing to go back to Pacific Time. Maybe I'll be okay tomorrow.
Except for one thing...When I woke up, my legs were so stiff and painful, I wonder if something's seriously going wrong. I was wobbling for a while until I got used to the ache. But I'm still weak because of my stiff legs. I hope it'll be okay for running because if not, I'll be doomed in PE. (And I still don't know whether my PE teacher forces you to make up the winter run, which I missed because of an assembly on the last day before winter break.)
My dad is constantly visiting some website called "China Gate". It's apparently a Chinese forum. It has a lot of advertisements on the sides. And some celebrity pictures. (I guess my dad is interested in these kinds of things? I mean, he reads Chinese newspapers, too.) Actually, I heard you can't go on China Gate in China. That's kind of ironic, seeing as China Gate is a Chinese website but is blocked by its own country.
My mom will be heading home on an airplane tomorrow. So at least I can look forward to that. We use a program called Skype to communicate. (I only use it for this purpose, to talk to relatives.) I actually heard if you change your status to Skype Me, anyone can talk to you. So beware. (It may be easier to understand what I'm saying if you have Skype already.)
Anyhow, I saw my grandparents (my mom's parents) today. My grandma asked me what time it was in the USA. I said it was 3 pm. Then she said, "So you just got back from school?" Confused, I told her there was no school today. She laughed when she realized she'd forgotten that it's Sunday over here.
My grandpa thought it was funny too. And we have this inside joke about people's minds getting worse. So I brought it up now. (Basically, it would be translated to "she/he is going crazy since they're old")

I'm kidding, I'm kidding...But I did hear of some disturbing things recently. My Internet Explorer only works sometimes nowadays, and I was wondering why it wasn't working. I think I may know the reason (or one of the reasons) because it turns out Internet Explorer has a big hole in it! So it's easy for people to put viruses and stuff like that into your computer. I was told you should swap to a different server if you use IE, such as Mozilla Firefox (what I usually use), Opera, Safari, or Google Chrome.
Well, I'm going to talk about something else now. (I don't want to start lecturing, because you would never see daylight again otherwise. Unless you use your computer outdoors.) My blog posts tend to be relatively unorganized and you will probably get confused by my jumping from topic to topic...So I apologize if this is hard to understand at times.
Cooking class went okay today. We're making the dough for our cookies. You get to choose between sugar and gingerbread cookies. The sugar cookie dough keeps sticking to the spoon we use for mixing. It's really a hassle but I guess it'll be worth it when we get to eat it. But I think I will end up overeating. (After all, I had a lot to eat at lunch, so I threw away part of it because I was feeling nauseous.)
Though it doesn't affect me at school, I think I might be getting arthritis or something. In the evening, when I'm playing Wii Fit, my knees get stiff and painful, and my back does as well. I think that isn't supposed to happen to a young person, because my mom said she feels it, and she's so much older than me! I wonder if I should see a doctor. (My mom says it's just from "exercising but not trying to loosen your muscles afterward")
I wonder when spring will come...It's so cold my hands are numb and frozen half the time. Even during PE, when you're supposed to feel warmed up, I still feel like I'm in the refrigerator or something. I guess I should wear a jacket and gloves to PE, but that would feel kind of weird. And it's kind of sad that it's really cold but not cold enough to snow...
I hear Japan is even colder in the winter. I don't look forward to that, even though I pretend I don't believe it when my mom says so. (She checked the weather forecast or something. And she listens to her friends' gossip when they have visited a place. They said Princess cruise ships aren't as great as you would think. I wouldn't know, since I've only ridden NCL and one Carnival cruise...) We'll be flying to Japan and going around with a tour group for about a week, then we head to China and visit my relatives. My mom is taking me to see her grandma's grave. Apparently the trains leave early in the morning, though. That's not good.

When I was looking at the Blogger home page, I noticed that this blog now has 50 posts. That's pretty cool. I hope someday it will reach 100 posts (and not through spamming this blog on the weekend or something like that).
I'm writing this post in between bouts of Wii Fit. The most recent exercise I was doing was Lunges - 20 repetitions. I really hate doing lunges when I'm using the Balance Board. Not only is it monotonous but it makes my legs hurt and I start wobbling and losing my balance. But since I am competing with my dad for first place on the records, I have no choice but to keep doing it.
Since today is Sunday, I went to my piano class a bit before noon. I think my piano teacher is a bit lonely since her son is grown up and she is divorced, and she talks a lot. She said that a lot of people are sick, and how she has low blood pressure and gets dizzy, and how it's a problem that shows up when you're older. By the end of class she was telling us about an expensive mattress she bought which made her back pain go away. I don't say anything most of the time.
My dad took photos of my mom and I for our visas. Apparently you need a picture of yourself, against a white background, for your visa picture. (Sounds pretty lame to me, but I guess I have to, since I'm being forced to go to China later this year. At least I'll be able to see Japan while I'm at it.) I always have to visit my relatives in person once in a while. I wish they'd move nearer to me, but I think they probably wouldn't want to, even if they could.

All day was easier, in a way, I guess. Cooking class is really boring right now because we don't get to cook until next week, probably. My parents read the sheet the teacher sent home, but they didn't sign it...So I have to try and get them to sign it soon. I don't want to be the last one to turn it in.
Math was just a quiz and doing the lesson for today. At home later, I had trouble with a few of the problems (it was impossible to get help for them because some were even numbered problems). I finished, but I still am unsure whether I did them correctly.
PE, I was a little less tired than yesterday and at least I managed to jog all of the running we did, even though the "dynamic stretching" is still wearing me out. We were doing soccer today. Oddly enough, even at this time of day, it's still hot outside. (Up until recently, it was pretty cold weather, but now it's suddenly a bit warmer) I am not very good at some of the soccer techniques. I hope Mr. Blair will go easy on me. He seems pretty relaxed so far besides making us run a ton.
In history, I raised my hands a few times in a feeble attempt to earn participation points, but he didn't pick on me any of those times, much to my disappointment. I only raise my hand because I have to. If my grade wasn't at stake, I probably wouldn't. :p
Lunch was pretty small today but at least I got some salad. Lately it was only corn and mashed potatoes I wanted to eat, since the bread nowadays is different. There's no mashed potatoes now, but I did manage to get a hot dog, although it isn't very big.
Language arts is still one of my favorite classes, and I like going to it. But we're going to be writing an essay on values we appreciate pretty soon. I'm a bit nervous because I haven't done any big projects for Mrs. Jackson so far this year.
Then science was laid-back, the way it often is with Mr. Brown. We had an Animal of the Week, the raccoon. Mr. Brown told a story about it.
"Often on the 8th Grade Yosemite trips, kids start craving junk food because they rarely eat it at Yosemite, so the only way to get it is at a snack place. Unfortunately, it closes early and usually the students don't arrive back from their Yosemite activities in time for it. One time at Yosemite, a kid arrived back early, and bought a big bag of Cheetos at the snack place. Once the others came back, he started taunting them because he knew they would be hungry (the cafeteria wasn't open yet). While he was waving the Cheetos in front of some boys, a raccoon darted out from under a building and snatched his Cheetos. The angry owner of the bag did tug-of-war with it for a while, before the raccoon decided to tear the bag open. The bottom half of the bag fell down and the Cheetos fell onto the snow. All of a sudden, four other raccoons appeared, and they all devoured the Cheetos. The kid's face fell upon seeing it, while other kids laughed at him. Mr. Brown calls it "poetic justice"- when you do something bad and nature takes revenge on you for it.

Today was a nice day. Especially in PE. I ran one lap very fast - in 1:22. It's nearly ten seconds better than my previous time. It only gets me 95% for a grade, but at least that would be an A, technically. So I guess it isn't the worst it could be. I was really sore afterward, though. I am not that strong due to my weak muscles. I didn't even know how to use my abs until this school year. XD
Whoops! I forgot to finish my math homework and went on the computer after dinner. Guess I had better get back to it so I don't have to do it on the weekend. It's just a rumor, but my parents said we are going to my mom's friend's house tomorrow. Apparently, my mom wants me to "socialize" with her daughter again. I wouldn't mind except for it seems like my parents want to force me to talk to people again. I'm kind of reclusive nowadays and I wish my mom would stop trying to make me uncomfortable. But I guess she doesn't seem bothered by it.
